SHIFTING CONSUMER ATTITUDES TO MORE SUSTAINABLE PAYMENT

We are currently living through a global climate crisis. The most formidable challenge humanity has faced, requiring global action to preserve the Earth we inhabit. So when long-standing client Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) asked us to collaborate on a project to consolidate their entire eco-innovative portfolio we were excited to be involved. G+D are one of the market leaders in payment technology, connectivity, digital identities, and digital infrastructures. They manage over 400m payment cards per year for over 180 different financial institutions.

THE IMPACT OF PAYMENT CARDS

Over 3bn payment cards enter our ecosystem every year – the equivalent to consuming 1 million barrels of oil. Banks can make a major impact on the environment by adopting more sustainable practices.

BUILDING ON A SOLID FOUNDATION

For G+D, caring for the environment is not a new phenomenon. In 2018, they introduced a group-wide climate goal – to reduce emissions by 2022 to a level compatible with the two-degree limit set out in the Paris Agreement.

CONSOLIDATING AN ECO-INNOVATIVE PORTFOLIO

Building a sustainable card issuance strategy requires more than just issuers moving to recycled payment cards. They need to consider the entire lifecycle of their issuance process to understand the impact of their current approach and assess how this can be evolved to a more sustainable offering.

A series of warm and optimistic illustrations to depict each of the three eco-card offerings – developing a style that compliments and mirrors G+D's sustainable credentials. Elements of each environment are used throughout communications to help deliver the narrative in an emotive, engaging way.
